SaveArtSpace

SaveArtSpace is a nonprofit organization founded in 2015 by artists Justin Aversano and Travis Rix. The organization transforms advertisement billboards into public art installations, providing a platform for artists to showcase their work in urban spaces and for activists to get their messaging out to the public through public art. By repurposing commercial advertising spaces, SaveArtSpace fosters community engagement and inspires social change through art. Over the years, the organization has curated numerous exhibitions across various U.S. cities, featuring artists from diverse backgrounds and addressing themes such as social justice, food & water, and the environmental crisis.

SaveArtSpace’s large-scale installations typically serve as a form of social protest or commentary, challenging the commercialization of public spaces by promoting cultural activism over consumption. SaveArtSpace also collaborates with other organizations and artists to amplify voices and messages that might otherwise be marginalized. Through its initiatives, the organization seeks to democratize art access and encourage public dialogue on important societal issues.

Featured Project

Animal Liberation
One of the standout pieces from the Animal Liberation initiative features a powerful visual of a factory-farmed animal juxtaposed with a companion animal, asking viewers to reconsider the ethical divide between them. Created by a renowned activist artist, this piece encourages dialogue about speciesism and our treatment of non-human animals. The striking placement of such imagery on public billboards disrupts the everyday visual landscape, prompting reflection and awareness. By placing these powerful messages in high-traffic areas, Animal Liberation fosters public discourse around veganism and the ethical treatment of animals. The project stands as a testament to the power of visual storytelling in shaping cultural consciousness and promoting compassionate living.
