The International Coalition of Cultural Workers in Solidarity with Ukraine

The International Coalition of Cultural Workers in Solidarity with Ukraine (or just “antiwarcoaltion.art”) is an online platform that for anti-war statements and art pieces of all mediums inspired by the war in Ukraine. Their website, antiwarcoaltion.art, is an open online platform that collects, shares and distributes statements against war created by artists from all over the world. Driven by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the platform presents an opportunity to protest against war, dictatorship, and authoritarianism. Anti War Coalition is an opportunity to express solidarity with those in Ukraine who are affected by the Russian military aggression, and with those resisting colonial, patriarchal, imperialistic, and political repressions and terror elsewhere.

Co-created in 2022 by the Belarusian refugee and exile organization, Ambasada Kultury, as well as 9 respective Belarusian and Ukrainian artists and curators, The International Coalition of Cultural Workers in Solidarity with Ukraine (antiwarcoaltion.art) was created as an online platform meant for sharing artistically driven anti-war statements inspired by the war in Ukraine. As an online platform for artists, antiwarcoaltion.art encourages users to upload all forms of anti-war art and anti-dictatorial statements, including but not limited to posters, videos, and audio. As a public tool, the coalition distributes artwork offline in art institutions, at large art events and festivals, and in private and public spaces through screenings and discussions. Finally, as an archive, the coalition routinely provides public opportunities for research and operates as a well-programmed collection of anti-war statements.

Their official partners include: The European Pavilion; the European Cultural Foundation; The Danish Cultural Institute in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania; the Swedish Institute; the Goethe Institute; and the Human Rights House Foundation. Beyond Ukraine, the website features artist statements from various countries affected by armed conflict, including Belarus, Mexico, Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, and South Africa.

This photography project documents life in the Institution of Scintillation Materials, a scientific research facility in Kharkiv, Ukraine, where residents took refuge during the Ukrainian war. The project documents the daily balance that Ukrainian inhabitants faced— both trying to maintain their daily lives, and, at the same time, trying to protect themselves and their families against wartime violence.
