The Kuujima Collective

The Kuujima Collective is a newly formed organization at Howard University driven by Black creatives committed to making a meaningful impact through art, community and collaboration. The name “Kuujima” comes from the bonds of principles called, “Kuumba,” meaning creativity, and “Ujima,” which means collective responsibility. The organization has a focus on artivism, a combination of art and activism, and a form of social protest that uses art to address political and social issues.

They host community meet-ups, arts workshops, and organize mutual aid events, among other collaborations. They utilize their skills and talents as artists to advocate and promote for social change, however possible. The Kuujima Collective exists to create a future where Black artists of all walks of life thrive.
