Art and artists are at the core of Pari’s activities, as it believes that artists play a vital role in processing and reflecting the important issues of our time. Reflecting the social, political, and deeply personal, Pari’s program draws out ideas that are particular to its location in Western Sydney on unceded Dharug land, while also resonating well beyond the local. Pari facilitates the space, but what it becomes is defined by the people who exhibit there, the people who visit to look and listen, the conversations that unfold, and the ideas that are expressed, rethought, and reconsidered. Pari pays artist fees for every exhibition and public program, with support from the NSW Government through Create NSW.

The Ropes

The Ropes is a new Pari program designed to champion the professional development and creative well-being of early-career artists. It aims to connect participants with other artists, guide them in giving and receiving feedback on work in progress, and support their next steps as creative practitioners. Over five weekly online sessions, a diverse group of community leaders and industry professionals will deliver talks and lead discussions to help participants navigate the ropes of being an artist. This program is specifically for early-career artists who live in Greater Western Sydney within the following LGAs: Blacktown, Blue Mountains, Camden, Campbelltown, Canterbury-Bankstown, Cumberland, Fairfield, Hawkesbury, Hills Shire, Liverpool, Parramatta, Penrith, and Wollondilly. This includes parts of unceded Darug, Dharawal, Darkinjung, Gundungurra, and Eora Country. Participants may be current art students, recent graduates, or individuals who have not attended art school but are starting out in their professional art practice, in whatever form that may take. Pari is open to all kinds of practices, and participants are not required to quit their day job or side hustle(s), as many have them. The program accommodates 15 participants, each of whom will receive $500 as compensation for their time and contribution.
