Free City Radio

Free City Radio uses recorded media (interviews, mixes, and music) as a way to combine activism and the arts. The radio is run by Stefan Christoff who is the central curator and organizer. The station airs on different community and campus radios across Canada and aims to amplify the voices of organizers, activists, and musicians.

Interviews and mixes are also available on SoundCloud and Spotify. Several existing interview series have been organized in tandem with activists worldwide and with different universities in Canada. From facilitating and airing conversations with organizers to airing music by oppressed artists, Free City Radio connects listeners with art activists and cultural workers working to spread awareness on a variety of issues.

Featured Project

Radio Alhara Mixes (” راديو الحارة “)
The Radio Alhara Mixes was created during a monthly “mix residency” session in Palestine hosted by Free City Radio. The mixes are a collaboration between various musicians and record labels, many of which are based in Palestine. The transnational nature of the radio series encourages a sense of collaboration between regions, nations, and cultures around the world, urging listeners to lean into the prosocial sense of unity that emerges from such artistic outreach.
